A few mornings ago I was rushing to get the kids ready for school when Nathan woke up, very whiny and demanding- "I'm cold!" "Where's MY lunch?" "Could you get me some juice?", and on and on until I said, "You are not the only kid in this family!! Please let me get the kids to school, then you can boss me around all day!" Later I looked at the blog and realized that recently most of the posts are about Nathan, and since he's "not the only kid in the family"- here's what everyone else is up to!
4th graders get to start band, and DJ picked the saxophone. He's doing really well, and makes us think we have a honking goose in the house when he practices! School is going better than we expected it would for him- I subbed 4th grade yesterday and there are like 32 kids in each of the classes (they switch around for core subjects, so you end up seeing every kid), and I got this weird, panicky, claustrophobic feeling when the classes would come in. Fortunately they are a good group of kids and I like seeing DJ interact and be happy at school. Sunday he sat with me on the couch and just snuggled for a long time and I loved it.

Katie is working hard in 6th grade and at home. I find myself expecting more of her than I do of the boys, which is probably not fair. She is a wonderful girl and so helpful to me. She enjoys school- having a locker, hanging out with friends, getting nachos everyday for lunch. . .life is good!

Sam is doing well in 7th grade. Yesterday he had auditions for the next play and we hope he gets a good part. I just had an interesting conversation with Matthew's school teacher about how Matthew is a great reader, but he was lousy at skipping in PE yesterday and got really frustrated. He said he talked to the kids about how we're all good at different things and we can help each other. Sam is learning to deal with some of that as the boys his age are playing on a football team for the 1st time- and that's just not his thing. He likes band and drama and learning, and those things aren't always "cool", but we hope he always has enough confidence to be himself and be grateful for the talents he has. He is such a smart, fun boy.

I love DJ playing the saxophone. He could be like Richie from Happy Days only better because he will really be playing the saxophone!!
I just found your blog from Adriane's blog. This is Sheena. I can't believe how big your kids have gotten. You have such a cute family. I honestly think about you often. Expecially when I was teaching YW'S. I'm not anymore but when I was and I would teach my lessons, I would think hmm what would sister Bigelow do? or how would she teach that? Your were such a good teacher and had such a great impact on my life. I loved your lessons. I think you would have to be one of my most memeorable teachers.
I love to hear about the kids, we miss you guys so much!! Thanks for the cute candy poster...Boston LOVED it! Love you guys!
