Don't let the pigeon fly into your house, get stuck in the recliner, then get chased and mauled by the cat in your daughter's bedroom!

Last Monday's little pigeon adventure: our cats have loved chasing the pigeons that live in the vacant, unfinished house next door. Last Monday morning I walked into the living room and heard a flapping noise and scuffle under the recliner. The cat ran out of the room, I look under the chair, and there sits a scared to death pigeon. We pushed the chair into the entry way hoping the bird would fly out, but it wedged itself into a small spot under the recliner. Long story short, the bird started to free itself, but then the cat snuck back in the house. I hear the kids screaming "the pigeon is flying in the house!" while they all run for the back door. I went in the kitchen and could hear that the bird and the cat were in Katie's room and it did not sound so good for the bird. I try to be tough, but the thought of carrying a flapping pigeon out of the house really didn't appeal to me, so I called Russ to come home (so glad he works in Springerville now- and glad it was a day where it was ok for me to be wimpy and need him!) He put on his gloves, got the bird (which was flapping like CRAZY), and threw it outside towards the vacant house. It flew a little bit, then smacked right into the house and fell onto the ground. What a sad ending. And then I got to spend an hour cleaning up bird feathers all through the house. Even sadder!

That is classic. I can relate a little. A few weeks ago I was sitting at the table and I heard a huge crash at the back window. I was sure it was a ball or something being thrown into the house. When I went out to investigate, there was a pigeon flapping around on my back porch--and it was headless!!!! I'm not kidding. It somehow flew away when I went outside. It had flown right into my house and lost it's head. Imagine the gross mess I got to clean up!
Your kids are so cute--I can't believe how big they are all getting.
