Monday: for FHE we did relaxation/breathing exercises then read a story about being a "super sibling" instead of a bully in your family. didn't help.
Tuesday: Rusty leaves for fire near Clifton, Matthew's well check (39 pounds, 41 inches- doing great!), little microburst blew through our yard:scared the kids and gave me lots of dirt to clean up in the house, presidency meeting (got a lot done and still had fun!)
Wednesday: I was going to go with our RS to the lavendar fields in Concho, but decided not to leave the kids since Nathan has been such a handful lately. Matthew played at Jace's, some of the Willis kids came here, Sam had scouts.
Thursday: fun pack meeting at Sister Eagar's, went to mom's--who brought burros back from Chalo's: thank you, thank you, thank you!
Friday: Matt went to Show Low with my mom & dad and very much enjoyed (& needed) the time alone, we had pizza for dinner (again- I think the kids would like to have pizza every night) and played catch in the backyard until dark. It was such a pain to get that grass to grow last summer, but worth every minute and little drop of water so we can spend so much time out in the backyard this summer.
Saturday: played slave driver all morning so the kids would help me clean up the house, went to a surprise baby shower/birthday party at 2:00 for Jodi Bingham (one of my 3rd ward Laurels): Rhonda (Jodi's mom) dressed up like an old grandma for the shower and it was hilarious- I just love Rhonda Bingham. After the shower, we went with Suzanne Willis and her kids to Pinetop to see WALL-E. Loved it. I don't think Pixar can make a bad movie. Suzanne's husband Mark is also Forest Service (not fire, but he has been in fire before), so I really appreciate the knowing look on her face when I say that Rusty is gone on a fire! Anyway, Mark was gone on a campout with the priests in our ward so we loaded up nine kids and had a great time at the movie.
Sunday: Sunday started at 2AM because we had an irrigation turn. Now I am very scared of the dark , so I was not looking forward to this at all. We've had all of our irrigation in daylight, so of course the first turn in the middle of the night would be when Rusty is gone. So I prayed for peace and kept the BYU channel on the tv in my room while I slept a couple hours so good thoughts would be in my head :-) At 2:00 I drove over to our headgate, which Brother Turley had already turned. So I went back home, grabbed my cell phone, flashlights, and two kitchen knives (oo0h- scary) for protection and went out back. We don't have any lights back there except for this little spotlight- which helped just a little. I got out to the garden and saw that the irrigation stream was really small. Our garden is raised up a little bit, so it was going to be hard work to get the water up to it. I knew I need a board that was lying on the ground near me- and the worst part of the whole experience was lifting the board and seeing cricket city underneath. Yuck, yuck, yuck! I tried to use the board to divert water into the garden, but the stream was so small it wasn't working: plus, it was hard to hold my knives and flashlights, a shovel, and the board. At this point, I felt like it was a real "tender mercy of the Lord" that it had rained quite a bit this week. The garden plants weren't dying for water, so I knew I didn't have to stress about getting the irrigation to them in the middle of the night. So I put the water on the lawn and went to bed so I could get up for church at 8am.
Now last Sunday we had the nicest, calmest day in Primary. This Sunday, we had the craziest, most chaotic day in Primary. Both my counselors were gone (it's ok Jane & Jessica- don't feel bad!!) and we had lots of our own kids there and LOTS of visitors (for the sake of Primary- Haws, Eagar, and Madrid families should really coordinate and space out the visits of their grandchildren!!) Sharing time went well and our singing time with Adriane was the best. I say it every week, but I really just love being in Primary. I'm so blessed to work with such dedicated, talented people!
