Pierced Ears

I didn't pierce Katie 's ears when she was a baby because (1) I thought maybe I'd be able to use it as bribery later (2) I was too lazy to take care of them. As she grew older, so did her terrific fear of needles, so she hasn't had any desire at all to get her ears pierced. Everytime we went to Walmart- which isn't all that often considering we're an hour from the nearest one- and passed the jewelry counter I would say "Want to get your ears pierced today?", but the answer was always a very emphatic "NO!"

A couple Mondays ago I had that restless I've-got-to-get-out-of-this-town feeling so I decided that Nathan and I would get the kids to school and go to ShowLow. When I stopped in front of Katie's school she was really quiet and started crying when I asked if she was ok. I took her home and she slept for an hour so and then felt a little better so we drove to the "big city". This time when we passed the jewelry counter I asked my question and she surprised me by saying, "maybe." About 20 minutes later- which was probably really like an hour because time flies when you're having fun and when you're in walmart- she said, "I think I will get my ears pierced." She didn't flinch or anything, and I didn't even have to give her that hug (full restraint) I have to give her when she gets a shot.

She's taking really good care of them all by herself and they look so cute!

(I have had to tell myself "i before e except after c" every single time I typed the word pierced in this post.)
